The Clinical Virology Unit ensures both diagnostics and therapeutic-clinical monitoring of viral infections, according to regional and international guidelines. Moreover, it is involved in projects for the prevention of viral diseases and it carries out research on the implementation of new tests and diagnostic techniques in the field of virology. In particular, the Unit is concerned with the diagnostics related to HIV-1 and 2, (screening tests and second line tests). Our experienced staff assures hepatitis and HIV therapy from prognostic and therapeutic monitoring to diagnostics in support of Gynecologic Center for Assisted Reproduction. Moreover, the Unit carries out all HPV-diagnostics related activities, from screening to genotypic characterization and to cancer progression markers. In addition, the Unit is regional reference center for epidemiological surveillance of tropical vector-borne diseases infections (Dengue, Chikungunya, West Nile, etc.).
